Default Fresh HDX install

Hi,

I just received my HDX card yesterday and i will install it on a mac pro that i just buyed for this setup, while i am still working with my TDM rig.

I will do i clean install on the machine who is running maverick at the moment.
I plan to partition the hard drive (ssd 500gig) and make one system with maverick and another with mountain lion.

I would like to know if there is any pitfalls to avoid and have feedback from other users if you have any tips.

Thank you!

Luc

I don't know if you'll be using PT 10 or 11?

Anyway, I'm sticking with 10 for now (see signature for details), and I gotta say it's been a pretty smooth ride so far. I took my time with the transition to HDX, and kept working on my TDM rig for about 3 weeks while I installed all of my plugins on the Westmere Mac Pro, and started testing the system.

Now, I depend heavily on virtual instruments, so I still use Vienna Ensemble Pro 5 to host them, which also works nicely with HDX 10.

Regarding pitfalls, Input Monitoring doesn't work in Pro Tools HD 10.3.9. The article specifically mentions HD Accel, so it may not affect HDX systems. I'm not sure at this point, but I will find out.

Congratulations with HDX!

Hi Stig,

Thanks for the info!
I will use HD10 and 11. Not much VI's on my side. Mostly tracking and mixing bands.
Like you, i will take my time to do the transition since i can keep my HD3 until the end of the summer.
I would like to try PT on mountain lion and on maverick and see which works the best. Just not sure on how to proceed to install mountain lion and a partition on a disk with maverick on it...

Thanks!

What kind/model Mac Pro (Specifics)

I have HDX-1 MP 5,1 & 4,1 both with 10.8.5 and 10.9.3 partitions.
I'm working 10.9.3 PT's HD11.1.3 24GB ram.

Jump to PT's 10.3.9 for some speakerphone rendering.

OS wise:Color coding folders tuned into tags in 10.9.x
I rely on this so I added TotalFinder to bring back the full colors (Last Tag)

I've been told that this only affects TDM systems, so I've updated to 10.3.9.

If you want to use a co-install of PT 10 and 11 (like I do) the only supported OS is mountain lion... That's what I'm using right now and it works great. Last 3 projects were mixed on pt 11.

I have a 5,1 MP, 8 core 2.4 GHZ with 16 gig of ram.
My plan was to make a partition with 10.9.3 with PT 11 (latest) and a partition with mountain lion with PT 10 and 11. For the moment, i installed PT 11 on 10.9.3 (did not take the time to partition the drive yet) and started installing a couple of plugins to test the system.

Thanks!

Make sure you download the HDX and interface drivers. Protools will load but not see the hardware. I keep forgetting that one.
