Default Problem with 003 rack

I use Pro Tools 8.0.5 on windows 7 (64 bit). When Pro Tools loads, i get a message that reads "unable to locate Digidesign hardware". I uninstalled the 003 rack drivers and downloaded the latest 003 rack drivers. After installing the latest drivers, i launched Pro Tools again. I still get the same message "unable to locate Digidesign hardware". Has anyone else had this same problem?

Can you test the 003 on somebody else's system to rule out a fried firewire port(which can happen if you hot-patch the firewire). A new firewire cable is worth a try as well(they do fail for no reason). Maybe post a Sandra report so the experts here can see if you have a compatible firewire controller in the computer(not all are compatible). Check this thread:

I get this message more than I like.

Usually what I have to do it reboot my PC, turn the 003 off and then back on and then Pro Tools will find it. Sometimes I have to click "OK" on the "unable to locate Digidesign hardware" 4 or 5 times before it finally see's the hardware. If that doesn't work, I did have a bad firewire cable once about 3 years ago that was a new cable.

Good Luck!

Are you using the firewire bus on your motherboard, or do you have a firewire card installed?

In any case try; Whilst connected to internet, Control Panel>Device Manager>IEEE1394 Bus Host Controllers>expand and double click on 1st controller>Driver Tab>Update driver (select automatically choose)>OK

If you have the right chipset on the firewire bus you should get a Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller driver installed automatically.

Repeat for any other controllers showing.

Also, make sure your 003R drivers have installed properly by checking in Control Panel>Device Manager>Sound Video and Game Controllers. With 003 switched on you should see a DFU entry. If it doesn't show, reinstall drivers with 003 switched off then reboot with it switched on.

Also under normal use, I've found it best practice to turn 003 on then boot computer and when finshed shutdown computer then turn 003 off. I used to get the occasional problem with corrupted drivers but since doing this I don't have any problems now.
