I hope they make it right with the new OS. I only have El Capitan on my laptop and it works fine there as I only test things in Pro Tools with it, but at the workplace every machine stayed at Yosemity.

Just let it go. Sierra is much much better. Jump the ship as soon as Avid has blessed the OS with a PT dot release

App manager and HD drivers, etc. are known to require Avid updates, but if you're only using "vanilla" features with built-in i/o, you will see a massive performance boost

I have a Mac Pro 5,1 with HDX at home. I'm going to give the latest beta of Sierra a test run. Anything particular that folks want tested or reports on? I'll run do what I can to test PTHD capabilities.
