Default LaCie Firewire Drive Set Up

I just got a LaCie 80g firewire drive and want to set it up. I can't remember where I read it but the recommendation is to set it up using the Apple Drive Set Up. Can anyone verify this?

Anyway, I have tried to do this but the drive is not recognized - it appears on the desktop and looks like it is ready to do business but I know it is not set up correctly yet.

So how do I initialize the bugger?
I considered getting more expensive Digi recommended drives but I really can't afford them (Glyph, Seagate etc).
With 7200rpm @ $200 the LaCie was the way to go...

all help and suggestions greatly appreciated.

OSX or OS9? In OSX, you can just start using the drive, unless you want to partition it.

What makes you think you need to do anything to it?

Oh yeah OS 9.2.2

If the drive is already set up with LaCie's silver lining utility software then I want to reinitialize it using apple's drive set up. 3rd party utility software causes problems with PT or so I'm told.
As I said, when I open drive set up, the drive is 'unsupported'.
Anyone else have any ideas about this?
Thanks.

I just did this with a different drive. The drive set up will always say "unsupported". That looked weird to me also but I was told it is correct. To initialize the drive you need to use the "Erase Disk" function under Special and you also need to get rid of the drivers/preferences associated with your drive. Do a search on the DUC to find old threads about Lacie drives. There are several. Also, check the Answerbase.

When I firt got a Lacie drive I used the software that came with it. The HD worked well for everything but it would not all me to run Pro-Tools from it. I could move files to the drive but the error would say that the audio files were not supported. You will need to use the apple system. I had a friend set mine up.
