Deep breath....

I hate change. Actually I embrace change as long as it isn't forced or abrasive.

Thank you for your patience my man. You speak the truth; I respect that and stand corrected.

I'll wait and see.

Humbly,

Dave

Two words for Avid (Shuck and Jive)
What exactly is wrong with RTAS going away?

Explain this to us, please.

It's all good, man.

This is change for the better in all respects. Very few plugs will be left behind by RTAS going obsolete. Most plugin devs are including AAX updates at a fair discount or included with the latest versions.

No worries. :)

I understand the frustration about, but it helps to be informed. There's a lot of fear that AAX will leave their favourite plugs in the dust, but it's in the developers' best interest to continue support through to AAX.

Default Re: Avid Media Composer 6 is 64 bit and supports RTAS .. and Legacy HD System !?

According to the Audio IO Hardware Options of Medica Composer 6:
http://www.avid.com/US/products/Medi...ptions#audioIO
64-bit Medica Composer 6 supports the Legacy HD System,
while 64-bit Pro Tools 11 will not support them.

So you're saying it's in Avids best interest to continue support through to AAX? I thought it was confirmed that Rtas vi's like ptiep would get an AAX version?

Correct. RTAS is running out-of proc on a separate 32-bit “server” application. The server app loads DAE and runs all the RTAS plugins, and it communicates with Media Composer via IPC (Inter-process Communication). Media Composer streams audio data to the server process, the server runs the audio through all the plugins, and the server sends the processed audio back to Media Composer.

Media Composer runs at much higher buffer-sizes than Pro Tools (typically 1024 samples). At lower buffer settings it would be very difficult to get the required performance in Pro Tools using an out-of-proc application. Also, you incur extra latency every time you make the “hop” across process boundaries. So 1024 really is 2048 or more. Not great for pro audio workflows.

MAx,

The MC guys could have done better explain this one point but most video guys aren't that interested

Bu you have to give them props for a much smoother rollout and explanation of the new version than you did.
