The Jo Meek Compresor plugin?? Yeah or Nah??

Any alternatives? Dynamics III, Bomb Factory BF-3A, Bomb Factory BF76?

Thanks,

Depends what you want. Compressors are the spice of the studio.

I highly recommend the Massey Ct4 for vocals and lots of other uses:

Dynamics III, like EQ III, has a very good interface so it makes it easier to dial in a good sound, but with work the potential is greater with other plugins. The Massey is even easier.

I believe they are limited on the sample rates. You can use them in demo mode, but they are really cheap for what you get, so you might as well buy if you like. It'll keep him in business and continuing to develop plugs for all of us to use.

I like the digi-rack stuff too. Its pretty good. It really depends on what you plan to apply it to though.

I believe you mentioned the meek stuff. I don't really like it that much, its kind of muddy - just my preference. The BF-3A is good, I also like a lot of the MCDSP stuff (compressorBank, MC 2000). They allow you a lot of control over what you're doing. Especially the MC 2000 since its multiband.

Massey demos doesn't save the settings. His plug-ins are all worth buying.

For comps the Digirack one is pretty good IMO, the Massey is also good. I also use the Flux, but mostly for some final touch (call it mastering or whatever). It's a very unique piece with some very nice features.

I also like Smack LE.

But don't believe the ridiculous price tag at Digi's webshop. You can get it quite cheap on Ebay these days.

Thanks for pointing out Flux Solera, I had never heard of it. $600 is steep though! Maybe I would rent it for a final mastering session or something. Doesn't look like it's rentable. Surprised at the price given it's not TDM.

The Smack LE compressor is included in the Music Production Toolkit...if you want to pay $400 for it may as well get the rest of the stuff in there for another $100!

The UAD-1 card has some of the best compression available in software on it and can run with LE.

HI,

JoeMeek SC2 goes for about $50 on ebay. And it´s use is more on the FX side not bad for ´artistic´
use but quality dynamics control is something different.

the McDSP CompressorBank LE goes for $129, if you have an iLok and gives you all the classics LA2A
UREI etc. The bomb!

Massey is never wrong and also top notch.

Smack (LE) is a really nice thing though it tends to be itchy, IMO, you can mess up your audio
with slightly wrong settings. I like it though, for special ocasions.
Get it cheap on ebay!

Dynamics Suite III is a hit on the spot, too. Very good technical, analytical control stuff,
meaning you won´t do ´the magick´, it won´t ADD anything to your sound.
Comparable to the old Elemental Audio Systems (new RND) stuff.

IMHO before you get the JoeMeek: get the Massey, you get the magic and the quality.
Afterwards you can still get the JoeMeek. BF76 is real good for the price ($0).

Personally I am long lusting after the Sony Oxford Dynamics but price is out of my range
for now.

Massey CT4 and MCDSP CB are awesome.. The Massey is suppose to replicate Opto-Electric circuits, which i believe are the bases of Joe Meek comps too..

What about other BombFactory plugs such as Bomb Factory BF-2A and Purple Audio MC77 ?

I really need some good vocal compressor plugs for voiceovers.

TIA
