Besides, the missing features could be tricky: it could be argued that they are in fact included in this release, what's missing is what resides at the other side of the cloud, which is being implemented as we speak and will be integrated to Pro Tools "soon" etc... I'm not talking about track freeze. All the ads were PT12 collab ect, which doesn't exist. and AVID charged people for it.
They also advertised it as a new feature in 12 and the CEO spoke about it also at NAMM.
Spoken about and advertised and PT12 was released. You can't legally do that.

Adobe has 100 times AVID's user base and doesn't punish their users for not subscribing.
Nor does WAVES. The WUP lets you come back when you want.

AVID had literally ended their days with PT12.

Selling what isn't there, but will be is illegal. Pretty much in every country.

Well watching the webinar it's pretty clear that collaboration isn't coming in V12.0 but sometime in 2015. The freeze function is part of the collaboration/archive system.
I'm trying to stay a little positive cos the v12 update is better on my system than 11. That's in my eyes more important than the new functions. I upgraded to 11 in January so I did not pay for this update. I got the support plan with the 11. Paying 199$ a year to stay current isn't a big issue for me.. But if you drop out you could be able to buy in again like on Waves system. Having to buy a full new license for something you own already is simply theft.

I was just referring to track freeze because it's another major feature that is "coming in 2015". When PT12 was announced, they always mentioned the collaboration stuff as something that "is coming". It was never clearly stated that it would be functional on day 1, unless I'm mistaken. However they did put the emphasis on the new licensing/support plan/subscription. To me, PT12 is more about that than anything else, it officially marks the beginning of the new licensing policy. As irritating as it may be, that's kind of a major change too.

And Avid isn't the first biggie to do this. East West/Soundsonline did this years ago when they announced the Pro upgrade to the original Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra back when it was using the Kontakt engine. EW (aka Doug Rogers) took people's money and sat on it even when it was mentioned by him that it wouldn't be coming out when promised. Turned out to be over a year late. It is illegal but certain companies don't give a rodent's posterior about that.
