Also Transfuser - New Electronic drums created by AIR. Are these emulating classics or their own take on electronic drums, Russ?

...and you probably don't know the details of this:

  • One installer
  • One activation code for all instruments
  • 55 GB of linear (uncompressed) sound content - time to buy ANOTHER hard drive!
but I'm gathering this ain't going to be an instance download file?

If NZ is anything like Oz, it's take two months of d/l quota to get it anyways..

Chris I've just been involved in the new Expansion Pack, I am not as someone has pointed out before given information across the whole of the AVID development programme.

For me, Giga support in Structure is huge. I can now brush the dust off Sonic Implants (Sonnivox) Complete Orchestral Collection as well as VI's Opus 1 & 2. I must say though that EW's Goliath and Symphonic Gold Complete, Structure Edition's have served me well.

The new orchestra is stunning and yes EXS and Giga are brilliant!

I wonder how the sample loading in Strike will work. The sounds that Avid provides with Strike are velocity layered (multiple samples for different velocity values). That's what really makes Strike tick in combination with the complexity. Will the sample loading allow us to import multilayered samples or just a one hit sample?

The update for Structure looks good with now proper kontakt 3 importing, improved EXS import and as a bonus Giga Sampler import. Sounds good.

I wonder whether they'll have an upgrade path for those that have bought most of the plugins in the expansion pack as stand-alone instruments. Or will the price of the package be so extremely attractive that you can't be bothered with it? Russ said his lower jaw fell on the floor when they told him the price so it must be special.

I guess we'll know thursday.

8.0.3 has just been released. I don't think they'll have a special Pro Tools upgrade (like 8.1 or so). Because why bother releasing 8.0.3 only a couple of weeks before NAMM when you're releasing 8.1 or 8.5 at NAMM? Just to keep us happy and able to run it on Snow Leopard? I doubt it. But hey, one can always hope and wish.

My bet is they'll come out with another Pro Tools interface that has integrated DSP power. Like 11 Rack.

At least that would be fantastic and solve the problem of the many requests of people wanting to have a system in between LE and HD. If it would be expandable in inputs and outputs then that would be even better. Like daisy-chaining interfaces. People are choosing Logic over Pro Tools just for that option.
