Default possible to revert from OSX 10.3.5 to 10.3.4?

I just saw the Digidesign warning about OSX 10.3.5 and firewire issues.

I have already (foolishly it seems) done the Mac OS update to 10.3.5 and I have since experienced some Firewire drive issues. In my case it wasn't a Pro Tools specific problem but a basic system issue... certain firewire drives consistently un-mounted themselves for no apparent reason. I was left with the Mac OS error message about dissconnecing firewire drives withpout first properly unmounting them. Is this what Digidesign refers to in their warning about 10.3.5?

What is the best way to restore my system to 10.3.4? Can I just run the 10.3.4 updater over the 10.3.5 system? Or do I have to do a fresh install?

Any thoughts swould be greatly appreciated!

You would have to do a fresh install to get back to 10.3.4. I have been running on 10.3.5 since it was released and I haven't had any more problems than normal with my firewire drives.

I also installed 10.3.5 (I have a G5 dual 2 ghz and pt 6.4 HD accel 2). I have had no problems with firewire drives, or any other problems so far. Although, one thing I have noticed is that the key command to increase/decrease the nudge amount (command-option +/-) now does a sort of full screen zoom instead of doing a nudge inc/decr. I think (but im not sure) that this started happening right after the 10.3.5 install. It must be a new key command in the system software that is overidding the pt key command. Its annoying, but its the only problem I've noticed. Still, it was dumb to install 10.3.5 without getting the digidesign qualification...

you can always go back, using the original disk and choose "archive and install" in the options. that should archive your old system, and install the new one.

I think you have the 'zoom' feature turned on in System Preferences under Universal Access. It's for visually impaired folks and is quite handy in redeye reduction in iphoto as well.

Anyway, it's the same key strokes (Command+option+=).

Just a thought

JFred, you rock. Thanks for taking the time to point that out, its much appreciated. That's what it was . Must be that the universal access settings were reset when I installed 10.3.5 or something.

you are not the only one.

i alway have had those firewire problems in panther

i'm sure they are working on a cs update for 6.1 that will make 10.3.5 cool

it's too bad they won't let us know that it is inevitable
