Default Free Protools|First?

Anyone using the free Protools|First?

If so: Besides being limited to the number of inputs/outputs and tracks that can be recorded at onetime, are there any other limitations to using Protools|First ?

I use PT10/Scarlette 18i8 on my MBP (OSX 10.8.5) mainly to do editing and ruff remixing and a few overdubs. I do have lots of plug-in bundles.

The reason I'm enquiring about Protools|First is that I'd like to update my Mac OS to Sierra 10.12.x but, of course, PT10 will not work with 10.12.

So then, i'll have to either pay upgrade to PT12 and then pay yearly "fees" OR I can down load the free PT|First and with no yearly fees.

My Question: besides limited input/output, what other limitations are subject to in PT|First?

thanks,

PT 10 is not "Supported" under Sierra... now, that doesn't mean it won't work it just means that Avid won't help if it doesn't. Give it a go, you might be surprised.
Also be aware that any move forward from 10 will involve having to move to AAX 64 plug in format which will mean updating your existing plan in bundles as well, so probably best to do a bit of research here before you leap as some may well require a paid upgrade.

Also, PT isn't nessicerily an annual fee upgrade, you can just purchase a "perpetual" license for a one of fee, it just means you won't get any upgrades after the first year if you don't opt into the annual plan.

Haven't used it myself, but First is somehow limited to saving only 'three projects stored in the cloud'...so, probably good enough to learn on, but pretty limited beyond that.

AFAIK, no third party plug-ins either.

I wouldn't even bother trying -- ElCrap already made using PT10 nearly impossible

If you need it, you pay for it. If you don't, 3 projects is enough to find out why. You can always save a session copy locally and get rid of a project, if you need a neew one.

I have a feeling that PT First does not allow for that - it only allows projects to exist on the cloud, and not to be converted to sessions.

I suspect the only way to transfer work between Grownup Pro Tools, and Pro Tools First, is to either collaborate on the project, and then convert it to a session in Grownup PT, or bounce out (you might be able to export - I can't remember exactly how limited First is) the audio, and import the audio files in to PT.

I can't remember if it's possible to export MIDI from First, so that may require a workaround.
