Default Solved: Sluggish graphics with 12.4 HD + Mavericks

Dear forum.

I would like a little advice, so first of all I will describe the system:

PT 12.4 HD with HDX card in a Mac Pro 5.1; 12 x 3.46GHz; 96GB RAM; Radeon HD 7970 graphics with screen 1 (3400x1440, 60Hz) and screen 2 (ca. 1600x1440, 60Hz)

Usually having both an Edit and Mix window side by side on scr1. Tried both Quartz Debug and a Beam Sync eliminator, but if a song has grown to just like 20 tracks + normal amount of plugins (Avid DSP, 3rd party native etc.) and the CPU is still like performing 4-5%, then it is giving me a hard time to for instance riding a volume fader automation. The graphics is lagging and the fader jumps in steps even though the pointer is smooth.

I hope thats a good description.

Apart from the little help given frem the Beam Sync elimination and Quartz Debug, the best thing is to close the Edit window though having only 15 tracks zoomed all the way out. It runs smooth with 120 channels if I just have a large mix window and NO EDIT window. So it´s not updating the blinking LEDs that gives the GPU a hard time, it´s having a line moving through a simple Edit window zoomed all the way out!!!

I have even tried to make a brand new OS X 10.9.5

Question Re: Sluggish graphics with 12.4 HD + Mavericks

What happens if screen 1 is a lower resolution?

Sorry forum - I hadn´t noticed that I made the wrong settings for Beam Sync.

I thought I had it deactivated, but it was´t.

Now Beam Sync is deactivated, and everything works like a charm

This has to do with how Avid is (not) handling screen redrawing. Since you are using v12.4, it is highly likely that you have an active support and upgrade plan with Avid. I suggest that you log this as a bug at protools.ideascale.com, then open a case with Avid and reference them to the IdeaScale URL as well.

You are not the first person to run into this type of issue, and unless more people start logging it with Avid, it will not be addressed.
