Spoke too soon. Post-closing crashes are still happening. Maybe replacement RAM will fix it - I'm skeptical.

And moving all .aaxplugin files out of the plugin folder, trashing prefs and retesting takes a few minutes... and the result of doing that is?

You don't need to replace the RAM to test, just remove the 2 sticks that show "BAD" and run with 8GB to see if the crashes stop. Were I in your shoes, I would check the motherboard manual for a few details.
#1-if you are going to test with 2 sticks, make sure they are in the recommended 2 slots.
#2-does it allow for quad-channel RAM? If it DOES, then you should run 4 matching sticks(all the same brand, size, model). If the motherboard has more than 4 slots, check the manual to see which 4 slots in which to use your 4 sticks of RAM.

I appreciate the help offered here. I replaced the RAM - all the same - spent a bunch more time trouble-shooting etc. I’m going back to my Mac. Windows is great and all but the ecosystem is too fragmented and fragile for the amount of time and patience I’m willing to give to it. I’ll pay my “apple tax” and get on with things. This is not an indictment of Windows or all those who are clearly using it successfully! This is about making music - not platform evangelism.

But since this is frequently caused by plugins (or corrupt sessions) did you exclude those? Just takes a few minutes to test.
