SampleCell instruments files structure anyone ?
Hello everyone,
I have several samplecell boards running on OS9 Macs, and for some specific musical projects I'd need to generate SC instruments files (and possibly banks) automatically with a piece of software of my own. The main reason is that it would be much faster than building instruments manually. I have no problem generating binary files; the only missing part is information about SC instrument files structure... I've spent quite a lot of time searching the web and various forums, as well as digidesign online archives, but no luck. I have edited various existing insT. files with hexedit on Mac, and obviously changing samples names is quite straightforward, but what about tuning and other parameters ? So, does anyone know where I can find complete information about SC instruments files structure ? Tanks for your help. |

Chicken systems translator will convert from just about any sample format to or from samplecell format. I would take a look at their software, they have a few other programs that might be useful to you as well.

Re: SampleCell instruments files structure anyone ?
Thanks for your reply. I already knew about these translators but actually what I need is quite different : I don't need to translate samples or instruments between platforms, but rather detailed information about SC instruments files structure to generate my own instrument files from scratch via software...

Re: SampleCell instruments files structure anyone ?
The reason I suggested this, is that there are other formats that have much more documentation, which can then be converted to samplecell. I don't think you'll have much luck, samplecell was dropped over 10 years ago, and I don't think any of that info was ever made public.

Re: SampleCell instruments files structure anyone ?
I see your point. Although I am a bit reluctant in spending $150 for a translator when SC boards can be found quite cheap these days, and also a bit worried by the fact that Chicken Syst. run on OSX when my SC run on OS9, I might give it a try.
They claim their Translator 6 can translate any format, Kontakt, Giga3/GigaStudio, EXS24, Structure, SFZ, Alchemy, Reason NN-XT, SoundFont, SampleCell, Kurzweil, Ensoniq, Akai, Emu, Roland... In your opinion, which of these formats are well documented ? Once again, I'll need to generate complete instruments (with tuning, paning and as many parameters as possible) and not only samples... Thanks for your time. |
