Default need help w/ track numbering when bouncing/mastering

question for ya'll...

how do you assign track numbers so when you bounce your session or mix you have discreetly numbered tracks. for example, i want to burn a continuous mix but i also want people to be able to jump around to individual tracks. is this done in protools? jam? can't seem to figure it out on my own...

You need to set up regions that define the track durations. I use Peak to do that, then save that as a JAM image, then burn it in Toast.

Got that? Test on Tuesday.

Thus the reason that ProTools is not a Mastering System. Having to export to assign PQ codes and ISRC for redbook audio, really limits your ability to say you Master in ProTools. Mastering is a lot more then just EQ.

You can separate each "track" in Protools as separate regions, and bounce each one to disc.

then, in your buring application, set your track gap to zero, and each track will go seamlessly into the next.

I highly recommond Toast for burning, iTunes will leave a very very small but still audible blip between tracks that Toast will not.

Hope this is helpful.

appreciate it, people.

i'll try bouncing each region individually and then reassemble it in jam. do you imagine you'd experience degredation or artifacts by going to peak and then to jam?

thanks guys.

Hello,
I just got done doing this. Chop up each song into it's own region. If you are not applying effects, then look in your region bin? And highlite the songs you want to burn, then hit export regions as files. Save it then dump it into Toast. It's easiest to save the files as 1,2,3,etc.

Graham:

I am about to do this for the first time.

I have 15 songs that I want to make flow into one another.

I had them as mp3's and I imported them to PT thinking I could do the fades and everything and just assign a track number at each point of each new song.

By reading your comments it seems I can't do that huh?

So, now that I have all of my edits done to each song in PT, what is my next step?

Right now I have all 15 songs on one PT track in succession.

Could you talk me through the procedure?

Thanks a million!

Tim

A bounced file from Protools is not to be confused with a mastered track. Recording is a three step process, tracking, mixing and mastering. You cannot combine them to shorten the process.
Tracking: recording the indivual voices that will make up the finished piece.
Mixing: combining the recorded voices to a stereo mix, applying eq, dynamics and effedts as needed.
Mastering: adjsuting the level of said stereo mixes so they play as a cohesive collection using dynamics, sometimes applyng minor eq, sequencing of tracks, adjustment of track gaps, all necessary encoding and subcoding.

Mastering is an art very unlike tracking or mixing. If you are unfamailar with it there is a vast amount of information avalaible, or you can have your mixes professionally mastered.
