Compression on Master for tv series
Hi everyone.
What do you use on Master for compression and limiting on tv series. Is it important that my L2 (for example) is reducing something and hitting -3dB? Is that good for the audio? Besides that, do you use a compressor before L2? Thanks a lot, Zzstation |

Re: Compression on Master for tv series
Almost never compress the master or stems. Mostly just safety limiters to keep in spec.

For most TV, if not all, it's usually -10 with peaks at -8. But check with the networks delivery specs.

Re: Compression on Master for tv series
Hi guys,
thanks for sharing your ideas. Actually, I'm aware of Loudness Meters. I was just wondering if audio post engineers use some kind of master compression as the music engineers does after the mix. Something to make the mix sounds better on air. And another doubt that I have is: what is the maximum attenuation that is ok when limiting the final mix to tv? -4dB, -6dB, -9dB? Thanks again zzstation |

L2 works perfectly for that. Just put it on your stem bus, set it and just be aware of how hot you are pushing it, if your limit is lower. Like if you had a spec of -6 peak, don't push your mix to the point where it is squared off by the limiter. Turn up the volume of your room to match closely to what it would be with out a limit of your peaks. |

In fact, the best itt ever sounds, is on the dubstage. It's downhill from there. So, if you're expecting magic to happen after the mix, it won't. |

We listen to a 2 track near fields and that is it. If you were to mix to every broadcast, TV type ect, you'd still be mixing after it broadcast. Hey Mark. You still on Nuendo or did you move to to PT completey? LEX |
