Default Firewire drive and buffer size?

Hi, New to the forums and to ProTools, for that matter. I've been getting conflicting info about the importance of an 8 meg buffer on external firewire drives as opposed to the 2 meg buffer found on the LaCie D2 drives. Will the larger buffer matter? And, will the Firewire 800 make any difference over the Firewire 400? I need to make a purchase soon, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Default Re: Firewire drive and buffer size?

We use 8mb cache drives in our Firedocks, they make them operate significantly faster.

FW800 is 2 the speed of FW400. However if your computer doesn't support FW800 getting a FW800 drive is moot.
