Trim Tool bug
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to see if anyone else has noticed something that's been bugging (no pun intended) me for a while now. In the last couple of Pro Tools versions, when you drag a clip boundary with the trim tool then release the mouse button to make the edit, the clip boundary sometimes 'flies off' to another point in the timeline - sometimes back to its previous position, sometimes to a grid line (as if in grid mode). I've noticed that there's a small delay between releasing the mouse button and the edit actually being made - this problem tends to happen if you perform other operations during this interval - switching edit tools, zooming out, or even just moving the mouse pointer. My workaround now is to not do anything for half a second or so after releasing the mouse button, before moving on to the next operation. It might sound trivial, but I do occasionally have to do quite detailed editing, which means doing this hundreds of times a day. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a 'fix', or am I just being dumb and this is a new 'feature'? If so, is there a way to turn it off and return to the old trim tool behavior? I'm pretty sure this bug started at version 12.0 or thereabouts, and it's been evident on every rig I've used - HD or Native. I'd always assumed it would be caught and fixed but it's still around. I've gotten used to it, but it's made me a much slower editor than I was in PT versions 7 - 11. |

Re: Trim Tool bug
Happens to me...not all the time just occasionally. I thought I may have jerked my Magic Mouse slightly but, after a dozen times or so, I now believe there is an issue.
I am running 2018.1 on OS X 10.12.6

Re: Trim Tool bug
I suspect its a mouse issue, or a graphics issue more than a bug

Re: Trim Tool bug
I’m pretty sure I’ve encountered this with different mice. At my place I use an Apple magic mouse but remember it happening on an HD rig with a Logitech mouse. Would be grateful if anyone could chime in who’s experienced this with non-Apple mice - I don’t really want to buy a new mouse just to test.

Re: Trim Tool bug
Hey
You sure you’re not holding down a modifier key? It’s a “new” behaviour that’s still driving me crackers. See also - http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=388600 Obviously might not be this but thought it was worth flagging up. |

Re: Trim Tool bug
Thanks midnightrambler - that could well be it. I have a habit of switching quickly to the i-beam tool after dragging a region boundary. If this is the issue, I’d echo the sentiment in the other thread that I’d REALLY love to be able to turn the new ‘feature’ off. I realise it’s meant to speed up editing but it’s slowing me down massively by forcing me to stop working for a fraction of a second every time I use the trim tool...
