Default Is running MIDI through mic cables ok?

I'd like to put my MotorMix in my iso-room to control Pro Tools from there when recording alone. I have a 8 channel XLR in panel in there. It's about 25 feet from the inside of the iso room through the walls to where it breaks out at the computer/Motu MIDI Timepiece location. If I wire the pair of in/out 5 pin MIDI cables to convert to 3 of the XLRs at each end will it work? Again, it'd be about a 25 foot run.

Thanks.

Yes, you can do it... Ive done it up to about 75 feet no problem. Above that it just didn't work. It either works or it doesn't in my experience, there's no in between where there's dropped notes, although I wasn't sending any MTC down the line.

By the way, I did it with just one mic cable. MIDI cables even though they're 5 pins only use 3 pins if I remember correctly. It was a long time ago, so I can't remember specifically which pins I hooked up, but I'm sure you can find info on which pins are necessary on the web. I was sending note on/off pedal on/off info down the line.

Hope this helps.

I've run MIDI thru mic cables and questionably wired TV studio patchbays repeatedly. Sometimes with a MIDI line driver (for lengths over 200') mostly without. I've yet to have a problem, firing MIDI for line TV events.

I've built many MIDI snakes using mic cable. Works great.

Much thanks to all for the info. Especially the tip that only 3 of the 5 pins are used. Thanks, 1m1 and steins.
