Default Samples and Loops on SSD or HDD?

So I currently have over 3TB of Loops and Samples and SSD's are not cheap. I have a 2TB SSD with other files on them including video and audio for video production. I have a 6TB HDD and was wondering if storing loops and samples on an HDD will work for the drive to read them fast enough to preview and use in Pro Tools 2018?

If not my idea was to at least choose the samples I wanted and to import them into my pro tools project and print each one to a new track so they were stored on the SSD so the samples I'm only using are on the SSD with my Pro Tools Project.

Default Re: Samples and Loops on SSD or HDD?

I store all of my superior drummer 3 samples on a separate HDD and that works fine for me. I don't know if there will be a noticeable difference for myself if I were to switch it to a SSD. My thoughts are it would be dependent on the amount of samples being used simultaneously. For me 1 VI drum kit probably isn't considered much in todays standards so HDD works fine in my situation. So I wouldn't consider how many samples you have, but more on how much is going on in the sessions that utilize them. personally I would try the HDD first and evaluate. if its bogged down then go for a SSD
