Default Assigning midi channels to tracks.

I am working in PT8 and trying to create a midi file in pro tools. I have created several midi tracks but have no idea how to assign a different midi channels to each track. I know how to route to the internal sampler but surely this is not the same thing. I expected to see a midi channel selector tab for each track.

The I/O assignments for MIDI tracks are in the same place where audio I/O assignments are for audio tracks, that is directly above the automation mode setting on each track in the mixer. By default, each MIDI input is set to ALL(Omni). Click on this and you can choose to narrow the input down to just a specific channel from a specific device.

The MIDI I/O assignments for Instrument tracks are found in a different place. You have to enable instrument view, View>Mix Window Views>Instruments. This will show the MIDI I/O at the very top of the instrument channel strip in the mixer. This input too is set to omni by default, but can be narrowed down to a specific device and channel.

Thanks for that. I have selected Midisport 1X1, midi channel 1, from the drop down list however I'm getting no sign of midi at the interface. Any ideas why that would be? The Midisport turns up in my midi devices and the output menus so why is not getting to the interface itself?

I don't know why you're not getting anything. I suppose you can try swapping the in and out plugs to be sure they're plugged into the right jacks.

I once had a Midisport Uno. I got rid of it because it was problematic just like what you're experiencing. At the time, I replaced it with a Fastlane which always worked flawlessly.

I'm trying to get midi out of a pro tools session, through my Midisport 1X1 and then into hardware. I've routed the midi channel in and out to the 1X1 and the midi IN works perfectly but I'm getting no midi out. Not sure if its a pro tools problem or a pc problem. I will try different usb slots.
