Default LtRt Question

I'm kind of new to the LtRt encode/decode thing. I've done my share of DolbyE jobs, just never had the call for LtRt, so I'm a bit of a noob at this.

I did some test encodes with Neyrinck SoundCode LtRt tonight, and I don't think I'm doing something right...then again, perhaps this is just how LtRt reacts to the material I'm working with.

I noticed that the music in my 5.1 session was being "spread" across all of the speakers after encoding and listening back through the decoder. As a test, I soloed the music track, and made sure it was only going out of my LR channels (no verb, etc...getting to the surrounds or center). After decoding this, still music is in all channels. I tried this with the AAX (real time plug in) as well as AudioSuite (offline), and the result came back the same either way.

Is this how LtRt normally reacts?

Thanks in advance for any help and/or advice.

I second that. You can mix through the plug in and then decode it to try and steer things around using eq on the rears bt basically, it's an old format and results may vary no matter what you do.

2 ways of dealing with this:
1) shift one side of the music track a few millisecond to brake phase coloration but keep it inside the Hass affect (2-3 should do it)
2) pre decode all of the music through the decoder and use the decoded music for the mix making the adjustments as needed

send just the music to the decoder
record the output of the decoder to new tracks (4.0 or 5.0 depending on your decoder)

most commercial music will decode mostly to C (vox, snr, kick, base) a lot of verb will go to the surround channels (especially from boxed like the SPX90 that flipped on side out of phase to increase the with)
