Default Arpeggiator question:

Hi there
I own a Korg ms2000, which features a very simple arpeggiator.
What I want to do is: Build an arpeggiator pattern up from scratch. Choose my own chords, sounds etc.
Do any of you guys know if this is possible, with any hardware or software?

Thanks

Pindebraende

Default Re: Arpeggiator question:

Hi,

An arpeggio is simply derived from the notes that would otherwise make up a chord being played in quick succession, that is one note after the other.

Some arps allow you to build the sequence from scratch, but I'm not sure if the MS2000 does, while you should be able to apply the arp to any sound. The arp will be an on/off feature of any patch.

Also, you can already choose the chords yourself, just by playing the keyboard, unless the arp isn't a true arp (such as the E-mu modules which is more a riff generator than an arpeggiator).

With the keys held down, the arp plays the notes automatically, while following the arp parameters (eg. note direction up/down, octaves spanned, and speed).

Pro Tools sadly doesn't offer MIDI plug-ins, but you can record a arpeggio sequence manually by playing the notes individually from the keyboard and recording its output as MIDI. If it helps, play the sequence slow, quantise, then speed the tempo back up again on playback.

Otherwise, your MS2000 probably outputs MIDI automatically from its arp generator and you can record it straight in.

I suggest referring back to your MS2000 manual and reviewing its arp options.

Apologies if I missed the point and you were asking more about how to use MIDI Pro Tools to play back a sequence from your MS2000.

Phil

The MS2000R does have a very limited Arpegiator as such but remember you have the 16 step wave sequencer built in that you can also use. It is clumsy though and I prefer just to use another synth arp to trigger it or even just play it into PT and then trigger it back, that way you have a lot more control.
