PT 2018.1 "video engine unable to stop"
Hi there... I know this is an old problem, but I recently updated to PT2018.1 thinking the problem would be resolved, but within minutes of running a session the video engine crashes, reading the classic "Avid video engine unable to stop".
I have tried all the usual troubleshooting routes (trashed preferences, optimised PC to Avid recommendations etc...) Ive tried converting the video files using every Codec that Avid recommends and still the same issue! Im running windows 10 with: Intel® Core™ i7 Eight Core Processor i7-7820X (3.6GHz) 11MB Cache ASUS® PRIME X299-A: ATX, USB 3.1, SATA 6 GB/s, RGB Ready Memory 64GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 2666MHz (4 x 16GB) Interface - PreSonus Studio 192 Please any advice or assistance would be greatly received.. Im gobsmacked that Avid havent sorted this, even after the years of the same problem persisting! Surely someone has the answer!!?? |

Re: PT 2018.1 "video engine unable to stop"
I work with video all the time and have never had this problem with any version of PT. Main codec used is DNxHD36.

Re: PT 2018.1 "video engine unable to stop"
This forum is riddled with posts about that error. I've used every iteration of PT over that past several years and it's been a problem with each version. I still see it in V.2018

Re: PT 2018.1 "video engine unable to stop"
I know - i've read them all!!
Is anything being done about it at Avid?? Surely they need to sort it out ASAP! Its driving me crazy! Especially when I have deadlines on projects. Does the same problem occur in PTHD as well I wonder? |

Re: PT 2018.1 "video engine unable to stop"
Yes, I've seen it many times in HD. But I haven't seen it for quite awhile, and I don't believe I've seen it even once since updating to 2018.1. Video seemed to improve noticeably with the release of 12.8.

Re: PT 2018.1 "video engine unable to stop"
The cause could be playing a very small selection that sometimes happens because I use a stylus (for ergonomic reasons).
Sometimes I can stop it by clicking the stop button, other times I get some error message after clicking stop. But the worst variant is that Pro Tools HD doesn't respond at all to anything other than the 'OK' button, that pops up again after a few seconds. So even saving before force-quitting isn't an option. It is mind boggling that this has not been fixed in 2018.1. Actually, that a major bug like this makes a release at all is mind boggling. I can only conclude they don't properly test their own software. There is no other conclusion I can draw. AVID!! FIX IT!!! People are trying to work here! I always convert to Avid codec before importing in an attempt to prevent problems. PT HD, Windows 10. |
