PT9 won't start without mbox plugged in.
I was under the impression that ProTools didn't need any specific hardware to work; that all you needed was the sound card on your computer. But my ProTools won't even load unless I have the MBox 2 plugged in. Did I understand it wrong?

Re: PT9 won't start without mbox plugged in.
It took me a while to solve this one. But a weird bug in 9 is that it always wants to open in the previous setup that it was opened in. ie, if you used your mbox last, then it's going to want to be opened with the mbox.
The workaround for this is to hold 'n' while the program is loading, so you can tell it to change the playback engine to whatever it is you want to open it with, and voila! It works.

Re: PT9 won't start without mbox plugged in.
I tried it, but it still tells me it can't find the hardware. Is there a precise moment to press 'n'?

Re: PT9 won't start without mbox plugged in.
hi stubied. if what you want to do is use your internal soundcard for playback and your soundcard doesn't have an ASIO driver you'll have to install ASIO4ALL. it's free and it allows PT to see your internal soundcard as an ASIO device.

Re: PT9 won't start without mbox plugged in.
Plug your MBox in and start ProTools. Once you have it up, go to setup/I/O and deselect "new session overwrites i/o setup". This will prevent PT from defaulting to your Mbox as the I/O hardware.

Re: PT9 won't start without mbox plugged in.
if your mbox is not plugged in then pt will default to the next available device install asio4all and you should have no problem.I switch between a 2626 and my internal all the time.

Re: PT9 won't start without mbox plugged in.
True but with my ASIO compatible Presonus FireStudio, PT9 still would not boot without the Mbox until I deselected the overwrite option. If somebody could clue me in as to how to set the default i/o device to something other than an AVID device that would be nice. Other than the way I suggested that is.

Re: PT9 won't start without mbox plugged in.
I'm farily sure it's specific to certain hardware. I don't think it's a PT9 issue per se.
