The good news, the Aja i/o xt will accept audio via embedded sdi no problem.
You can feed it tri level sync or any reference flavour I guess.
It sounds fine, as I played a 5.1 mix out of it and then my native rig chased it via ltd.
Hooked both up to my xmon and switched back and forth.
I could hear no difference, (i use an omni for monitor out)

Bad news, it has a fan whine that is crazy.
I would need to put it in another room for sure or buy a mega iso box.

Calling Aja to see if there is anything I can do about the fan.
Aja is replacing the unit!

Not related to your problem…but I simply removed the fan from my Aja LHI card. Its now "surprisingly" silent for about a year I have it in my MacPro. The chip is not overheating and getting maybe to 60-70 degrees Celsius which should be ok for most silicon electronic components.

Surely they put a fan on it for a reason? I can understand you wanted it quieter, but is it worth the risk of damaging the card?

Well, of course they have put the fan for a reason.
And yes, I am risking a bit...but not allot.
First of I work in fully AC controled room. Second, the fan of this size doesn't cool allot anyways. Third the card is in the slot which receives a maximal ventilation from the Mac's main fans. Forth the card doesn't work too hard in terms of no capturing, cross converting or H264 processing.
Taking all these facts into account I assume that my risk is minimal. And yes its still my own risk...so don't try it at home as its not "by the book" practice.

Good to know and glad it's working out for you so far

Hi Michael,
I just had this same problem start with my second hand LHi making a massive noise from the fan.
How did you remove it?
I undid the little clips that hold the pins with the springs on, but its still firmly attached to the chip.
Thanks
Martin

Martin, you are on the right way. Carefully detach the fan from the surface by inserting a razor between the fan and the chip. Its simply glued on it.
BTW: it works like a charm without a fan for quite a long time if someone is wondering.

Ah Ha! Glue, who knew?

Thanks Michael.

When you say it lasts quite a long time does that mean yours has died now?
As the card only cost me $85.00 I'll be happy even if it doesn't last too long.

No. It's working lovely without a fan for about 2 years now. And I'm using it 12 hours a day 6-7 days a week. So its working flawless from the day one without any fan.
Wow for $85 it should be called a bargain or a no brainer in "plugin hunters lexicon"
