Thanks Michael.

When you say it lasts quite a long time does that mean yours has died now?
As the card only cost me $85.00 I'll be happy even if it doesn't last too long.
Digibox are the approved repairers in the UK. Speak to Andy Killinger.

I had a fan go whiny on me recently and they were able to supply a replacement, either self-fit (involves a tiny bit of soldering) or they can fit for additional cost. I think it was £15 for fan, £75 if you wanted them to fit.

It's still not the quietest fan on earth but no obvious single pitch whine. Bearing in mind Michael's experience I'm tempted to remove the fan and replace with a heatsink - there's plenty of space & airflow in my computer.

Yes, I thought about a heatsink too.
That would be pretty easy to fit.
Although its quite cool in the expansion chassis its in anyway.
I took the fan off, seems fine so far.

Yes the chip doesn't seem to go the high temperature at least for the most of work I loud on it.
Many times I used to leave the computer overnight for different tasks in the middle of August with a main air conditioner switched off.
I am more concerned when my Sound Devices 788T going to about 80 ℃ in some interior car scenes (I am in Tel Aviv)...But its still working.

Default Re: AJA io XT (tri level sync)

Have a question about using the IO XT. How does ProTools communicate tri level sync using the IO XT if you're using it as your playback engine? Can it at all? I have a SYNC HD and an OMNI; if I go to my session setup I get the option to using the SYNC HD Video Reference. BUT if I use my black magic card (which also has tri level sync) as my playback engine ProTools does not detect the SYNC HD. Is it different for the AJA IO XT? So what is your playback engine when using the IO XT and how do you get video reference if you're using that as your playback engine?

You need a sync generator like an AJA gen 10 to get HD sync.
You run a ref from the gen 10 to your sync HD and another to the AJA i/o xt.
Switch the i/o xt to receive external sync and your sync hd to video ref.
Choose the correct timebase for the project you are working on on the gen 10 and in the sync HD control panel.
Sound output always comes out of your interface, in your case the omni, which should be loop synced to the sync HD.
Not sure if that's what you meant.
Anyhow you can't achieve HD picture edge sync without a separate tri level sync generator. AFAIK.

I just pulled the fan off of my LHi. (WOW was that obtrusive in a mix...)

In my case, it was not glued on... but rather held w/ some springy cylindrical clips that pushed through holes in the PCB.

Fingers crossed.

Don't worry, I can confirm that I work now for years without the fan and have zero issues.

Hi Martin

You can get genlock at 1080 25fps or 29.97 in PT with sd syncs, you just need the tri -level for 23.98 or 24 as no sd sync exists at these rates. The tertiary bit of the sync signal compared to black and burst is for line timing duties only - irrelevant for us in PT as we only need the black and burst for frame edge alignment only.

Genlock is almost but irrelevant these days anyway for non high budget work (unless you want to pay the big bucks to guarantee 100% sync).
The non-genlock AJA T-tap had a consistent sync error of 8ms +/- 1 ms when I tested it with DnxHD, hardly a wildcard of inter-frame rubberyness is it?.

If I had my time again I wonder if I would bother with a Sync HD, Tri Level Sync, and an expensive video peripheral (IOXT), and would go heli skiing with the money saved instead?
