Avid S1 and EQ and Dyn buttons work differently

I recently picked up an Avid S1 and I am really enjoying using it as a control surface. However, while testing some things out I have run into an inconsistency between these two function buttons.

The EQ button will work with any EQ I have open. This is great! It gives me control over a wide variety of EQs and the functionality is basically the same no matter which plugin I use. If no EQ is open, it opens the last eq I was using. If I open a new EQ the mapping is basically the same, and it takes over the control surface as the open plugin. This is an amazing workflow!

The Dyn button however only works with the top compressor in the channel. If I open another compressor plugin turning a knob just reverts to the top compressor plugin. Why doesn't the workflow I mentioned above with the EQ work with the dynamics? This would be so much more intuitive and allow for quick, easy control of dynamic plugins.



I seem to recall at one time the eq section worked like the Dyn section currently does when it only worked with the top EQ plugin. Why change the functionality of one but not the other?

I'd love to know if there's a way to make the Dyn button function like the EQ button currently does. It's a drastic improvement!
