Default ATTN: Marshall Fanatics...I have a question

Ok guys,

I have a chance to buy a 1985 JCM 800 (50 Watt). It has some problems...It needs 3 pots, and the two inputs jacks need replacing, as the amp was dropped. Cosmetically, its in pretty good shape, there are a few tears in the Tolex, and it could use a little TLC. The tubes in it are new Groove Tubes 6L6's. I was wondering what you guys think it's worth. Here's a Pic: http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...9.jpg.orig.jpg

I've just bought one for £300 s/h exactly the same but fully working, they're quite collectable now, offer around £200,£250 as it needs some work, great amp for the money

Hey Wade, if you ever want to talk amps, there's an incredible amp board here:

If you guys take JCM800 amps for Metalsounds where do you get the distortion from?

Andy, I've been reading, you use the Marshall instead of the Boogie sometimes, so do you use external distortion devices? Or has it something to do with the modification?

Cheers

I dont think I am going to buy this amp. I dont think it is the sound that I am looking for. Plus, I kinda want two independant channels. Bogner or Soldano would be my first choices, but I cant afford them. Boogie....here I come (in the near future, I hope).

The dual channel 800 has plenty of gain, and I use a soldano mod in the standard. Tube screamer or Boss GE7 works pretty good without the mod also.
