choir recording
hiya!
I'm recording an 8 piece choir tomorrow night in a studio. It's 2 of each satb and I've the following mics: 2 akg c1000s 1 akg c3000b 1 audio technics 4033a 1 rode nt1a 1 rode nt3 1 akg solidtube So I was hoping you guys could give me advice in placement and choice of mics. I was thinking of using the solidtube on the sopranos, the rode nt1a on the altos, the audio technica on the tenors and the nt3 on the basses. Then I'd have the akg c1000s a bit further back capturing the overall as a spread stereo pair. Any suggestions? It's for a gothic kids movie, so it's kinda playful danny elfman-esque music. thank you, steve

Re: choir recording
I've always been fond of MS mic'ing with small choirs. It has a great stereo image as well as good mono compatibility. In a good room with a choir who can balance well, I've found this is all you need and it sounds nice and natural. This will also avoid any phase issues you might introduce with spot mic'ng sections .
