Help needed,Heat latency Pre-Post?
Hi I have a bit of strange thing goin on with Heat.
I have a large session about 40 audio tracks around 80 minutes. Now i use heat on all the tracks in pre mode. Normally I did with heat is post but wanted to change an d experiment which sounds better for the tracks. Some post some pre. Any tips would be very welcome about Pre n Post, on which instruments. But does the post mode gives more latency?? Cause protools gives an error with cpu to low. And I'm just using some fab filter plug on toms and hats. And that's pretty much it I was just was busy with the drums... Or is my drive to slow?? Or should I cut the sessions in each individual song and then work in different sessions? Any tips and suggestions are much appreciated. My setup is; Mbp retina i7 4 core 16gb 2.3ghz Magma T3 expansion HDX Hd i/o Protools 11xx Usb 3 drive 1tb 16mb cache max5 gb

Re: Help needed,Heat latency Pre-Post?
Your single session drive is most probably too slow for 80 tracks. Avid recommends no more than 32 tracks per (7200rpm spinner) drive. My experience with 10000rpm spinner has been 80 tracks shouldn't be a problem, but your mileage may vary. I would expect two drives would sort it out.

Re: Help needed,Heat latency Pre-Post?
Will the setup in disc cache help which is in the play back engine menu?

Re: Help needed,Heat latency Pre-Post?
The problem with "pre" mode with HEAT is that it is a DSP process - so any host plug-ins after that will force a round trip. This will cause more latency, depending on the hardware buffer, but will also use more voices (which may not be an issue anymore). I don't know why you're getting a CPU too slow error though.
Regarding Avid's track recommendations - 32 tracks on a 7200 drive is VERY conservative. It's based on having 32 tracks of continuous audio with heavy edit density. If you can use disk cache and not starve Pro Tools for memory that should eliminate the drive as a potential issue, though. Try raising your HW buffer size, if latency isn't a concern. |
