2021.6 freezing on playback

I had the same behavior with 2021.6. I’m on a M1 Mac Mini. All previous version of PT were butter. I went back to 2021.3 and I have none of those issue. Every thing is smooth and easy.

Initially I figured 2021.6 wasn’t playing nice with M1 but if you get the behavior on Intel something is up.

how did you get the older version? I lost my install file, do you still have the DMG file?

mac mini M1 here. beach balls ever 30 to 60 seconds. even without any plugin loaded verry anoying

You can get previous version of Protools at the Avid Download Center.

For those of you who are getting this regularly (predictably), could you do the following?
Launch Pro Tools and open your session
Launch Activity Monitor
Type Pro Tools in the filter field so it just shows Pro Tools
Select the Pro Tools line
Keep Activity Monitor where you can quickly switch to it

Note the gear icon in the left part of the header of Activity Monitor. There is a choice, "Sample Process"

When Pro Tools beachballs (a "hang"), immediately select "Sample Process" (or option-command-S). You should also see Pro Tools go "not responding" during the hang.

Once the sample is complete, click "save" in the upper right portion of the window, save the file, and post it here.

Hopefully this will help Avid figure out what's going on.

The freezing is happening every 10-15 seconds and making operations so laborious to the point of being unusable.
Attached is the sample from the Activity Monitor. I hope Avid sorts this out soon.
