Default Change i/o Settings?

I record at my studio with a Fastrack Ultra 8R. Last year I sent a song to my buddy in California to mix a song for me, he records on a Profire. So the original session was recorded using USB 2.0 and of course he mixed using Firewire 400.

After he bundled up the session and sent it to me, pro tools is giving me a message that this volume cannot be played and it references a USB problem on this drive.

This message only appears after the session has completely loaded and I click play in the transport. From this point, it will not let me play the session.

I am completely up-to-date using the new 8.0.4

Do I need to possibly change my i/o settings?

Thanks.
