Generally, if it aint broke...don't fix it.

Read the 10.3.6 'README' file and see what if any bugs have been fixed. If they don't affect you...forget about it.

But if you do decide to update....backup your working system before doing so. That way if need be, revert back without any problems.

Browse also the PT11 forum.

There have been a number of problems with 10.3.6 and PT11 co-install.
There is yet not much information if all the bugs experienced in the 10.3.6 are caused only by the PT10+PT11 co-install or if some of the bugs are "native" to 10.3.6. And also which ones are mac or win7 only.

So I'd definitely wait some weeks for the dust to settle if 10.3.6 doesn't have something that you definitely want/need now now.

I'm a new Pro Tools user. I've installed from purchased 10.0 install discs on my MacIntel octa core under 10.6.8, for use with non-Avid (Apogee) hardware. I was prompted when opening PT that 10.3.6 was available, so I downloaded 10.3.6, uninstalled 10.0, and now want to install 10.3.6. In the downloaded folder there are 2 .dmg files named
Pro_Tools_10_3_6_Mac_79549.dmg
and
Pro_Tools_10_3_6_Mac_79569.dmg
I could find no documentation explaining the difference between these files, and whether I should use one, the other, or both. Can anyone answer this for me?

Each .dmg file opens what looks like the same Pro Tools installer program. I ran the first one and was able to open PT. When I opened the second .dmg file, I saw nothing during the first few screens to indicate any difference from the first installer, so I stopped short of doing the second installation. Since I don't know anything about PT yet, I'm not able to immediately assess whether the first install is all I'll need. I AM able to create a new session in PT, the transport works, and it IS 10.3.6 that is running.

One may be the Pro Tools installer and the other the Pro Tools Virtual Instruments installer. Try them and see what they install. Did you look at the readme/installer instructions?

I DID look at the read me file, and there was no reference made to multiple installer files.

My concern about running the second installer file is that uninstallation is recommended before installation, and I'm not convinced that the second file is substantively different from the first.

Lightbulb Re: Upgrading to 10.3.6 from 10.3.5

Do a Get Info (Command+I) on your Pro Tools v10.3.6 application. If the version number in that window is 10.3.6.269, then you have the latest version and can delete the other .dmg file.
