Default A Mac thing..

Could one of you Mac users explain in detail (or post a link to) what "repair permissions" does, how and when to do it.
Thanx

It's normally recommended that you should do it periodically and after installing any software.

Rail & Jim,
Thank you guys.
We've had some corrupt install issues of the Drumagog 4.03 update , also some never before seen "access denied" prompt on my HFS+ drive on my home PC. Not sure if they are related, but I was bringing the file in on that drive. Had a mysterious "temp" folder on it too, with 0 byte of content.
Have a fresh installer to use, but was advised to "repair permissions"
There...
happy tooling,

I say repairing permissions is "rebuilding the desktop" for the twenty-first century!

For what it's worth I run a shareware preference utility called Macaroni which does a number of UNIX housecleaning chores including repairing permissions in the background without me having to think about it.
