Default BLA now modding HD IO and Omni

Just a heads up. Black Lion Audio is now offering modifications for the HD IO's and the HD Omni.

I called them about this, and the Omni sounds particularly interesting because it not only improves the digital conversion, but they say it greatly improves the built in preamps and also the analog monitoring path.

Just wanted to point it out in case anyone's interested. The price for the Omni mod is not listed on their site, but it's $1395.

I'd like a mod of the Omni that prevents it from getting that hot, thus ceasing this f*d up fan noise.
This still annoys me to no end.

Have you looked into replacing it with a fan from Silent-X or some other good brand?

Actually I didn't know this was an option.
I'm okay with exchanging parts in computers, but I never dared to open an interface...

Did you do it?

No, I don't know how involved it is, or if it affects your warrantee. I did change out the fan in a Glyph hard drive a while back.

I'm pretty sure someone posted on here that they changed the fan in their HD IO and it wasn't too hard.

Interesting, but if they would change the noisy fan, add an extra headphone amp output and change the bulky DB-25 solution
with 8 analog line outputs instead I would be much more interested.

It's always nice with better sound quality but I have no big issues with the sound quality as it is.

I'd be interested in hearing from BLA how the modded Omni compares to a modded 8x8x8. If the 8x8x8 is a far better sounding unit once modded I may sell the Omni. There's probably more potential in the 8x8x8 since it's a larger unit and more room inside and better power supply.

I know, and according to BLA the A/D chip in the new HD boxes are inferior to the older Digi HD units. The DA is better though.

Could be a marketing ploy to attract clients or not.. who knows.
