Default best P4 motherboard

hi everyone,

in the upcoming months, i plan to do a computer upgrade for my 001 system. as it stands right now i will be going with a P4 2.8 prescott edition processor with a gig of ram yada yada yada. what i can’t seam to figure out is what kind of motherboard to get. i was looking at a gigabyte or an msi but i haven’t seen to many stats with those boards. i was wondering if anybody knew if these boards are compatible or if there a list or something with compatible boards for the prescott chips. any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanx

Here is a list of the digidesign suggested motherboards for running PT 6.4:
  • Motherboards with the Intel 865PE/875P chipset that utilize the IC5 south bridge chip (see motherboard documentation for verification)

Motherboards with the Intel 860 or Intel 850 chipset (or variants of these) required for Pentium 4 processors

With TDM systems (MIX & HD) Digidesign only supports chipsets in the 845 family (845/845E/845PE) that use DDR RAM. Digidesign does not support chipsets in the 845 family that use PC100 or PC133 SDRAM.

BIOS must have multiple PCI bridge chip support enabled and PCI parity disabled

You can click on support at the top and go to compatibility to check and make sure you don't get anything that is specifically known to not work.

deave,

If you're looking for the best motherboard period, go with the AMDs listed in the Best Desktops thread.

If you're stuck on the P4, there's a thread called Building a P4 powerhouse that is accessible from the Best Desktops thread.
It's probably a long read, but you might find the answers you're looking for there.

Deave,

I just had a mobo fry out on me and went with an MSI Neo2-P from CompUSA as a necessary quick replacement. I can't deny that I have been unbelievably satisfied. It's a great board!

It's really working excellent for me.

I second the AMD vote. If you havent already purchased your P4, go AMD.. You'll be VERY satasfied. I almost went Intel, but the AMD's are pulling in much higher performance in ProTools LE. I've had my AMD64 rig for a few months now with a DIGI001 and I'm very glad I didn't go Intel.

If you need a good P4 board though, check out ASUS. They make killer boards.

Hello at all,

IF you want to purchase a new and powerfull P4 Presscott, at the moment, you only can see the new Asus P5-p800, with the Intel 865PE chipset. Until Digidesign test the new intel's chipsets, the more powerfull motherboard for a P4 presscott will be the Asus P5-P800.

And don't forget use lot of Ram (1Gb), faster 7.2k ide or SATA hard disk, a great UPS and if possible a dual head with the new apple cinema display 20".

Sorry for my english, it's terrible!!!

regards.

do you not think i should go wth the AMD? i only chose them because i couldn't find strong enough arguments to go other wise. plus the davec test for similar boxes are awsome.
