Default Foot pedal for editing

Is it possible to assign a short cut in Protools to a foot pedal (copy, delete, paste etc)?
And if yes how would you do it?

Couple years ago I was teaching a recording camp in Baltimore and the studio manager had a simple Boss latch pedal connected to the control room Talkback mic (on/off) via 1/4" guitar cable. It was one of the most gloriously simple solutions I'd ever seen for appeasing a client's desire to have control over the conversation.

Yeah, i had the same thing but the damn "producer" could never remember to hit the switch I finally gave up and made talkback automatic, I have the older version of the POK and it actually works fairly well(there are a few things I can't seem to program due to keyboard conflicts. Create a new playlist is one that has me stumped)
