Default LATENCY ISSUE

I have had Protools for a while now w/ the M-Box 2.. I usually use a couple of mics to do all my guitar recordings.. It would be great and so much more productive if I could track my current track live rather that mute it to avoid the latency issue. My computer is super fast and is a beast. Is there any particullar way to eliminate this latency issue or lessen it in any way?? thanks...
