Default Mbox unplugged?

Long before I purchased my Mbox (former Roland VS-1680 hauler) I should have purchased a home recording for idiots book (any suggestions ?). For now however, all I want to do is confirm that there is no way to use the FULL PAID FOR VERSION of PT LE 5.3.3 without the Mbox plugged in. Finally, if not possible, is this a piracy prevention program or do any of you tech junkies know an simplified answer to the functionality of this paradox? That is to say why doesn't it work?

You are correct. There is no way to use the full, paid for version of PTLE 5.3.3 without the MBox plugged in.

Why doesn't it work?
Because Digidesign doesn't want it to.

As someone said on a different thread, the MBox, the 001, and the 002 are the ultimate forms of dongles.
