Default CHUD, fixing ADAT XT sync, and motor noise?

Ok, in aimless fishing to figure out why my PTLE was not was not synchronizing to ADAT clock via lightpipe, I downloaded CHUD and turned off NAP mode. Blammo, my ADAT XT synchronized immediately. Very surprising. In addition to that, the faint whirring motor noises when pressing the mouse went away, which was not entirely surprising...

So, what exactly does this disabling NAP mode do inside OS-X? I'm sure the developers of it didn't intend for it to syncronize lighpipes to PTLE.... But it sure fixed these two problems in my case on a G4. The only writeups I've seen talk about how it removes 'motor noises' in a DP G5.

Any insight???
