Hardware Requirements for PT 12: WiFi Adapters
Does anyone have a WiFi adapter that doesn't affect process interrupt latency (as measured by LatencyMon, for example)? My current one is a resource hog and I have to disable it to use Pro Tools.
A lot of people have troubles that boil down to their WiFi adapters. We need to try and come up with a list of problem adapters, and a list of good ones. Please comment in this thread only if you use Pro Tools 11 or 12, which have a completely different engine from all previous versions. Please share the exact model of your WIFI adapter, and whether it is USB or PCIe etc. I'll start by telling you one that's NOT working: MODEL: TP Link 300Mbps Wireless N TYPE: PCIe RECOMMENDED: No Last edited by chrismeraz; 03-09-2016 at 07:57 AM. |

Re: Hardware Requirements for PT 12: WiFi Adapters
Not sure if this will help you at all, since I only have a wifi card in my laptop... But it's working fine with PT12. INTEL AC 7260
Intel makes a few PCIe cards that use the same guts, like this one

Re: Hardware Requirements for PT 12: WiFi Adapters
RTL8187 chip sometimes works, with Ilok, sometimes not...
Depends on many things... Board USB chip model, Board USB chip drivers version "Intel inf" Driver version for the Ilok, Driver version of the RTL8187 USB port where items are connected... If has USB extension or not, some cheap USB extension fail... Jetion brand work ok, all USB extensions and USB2.0 hubs I have. Having a USB2.0 hub seems to solve most problems. PT9.0.6 Ilok drivers were more selective/conflictive. Some USB devices just block the PC, starting the PC with an iPod was fail every time. |

Re: Hardware Requirements for PT 12: WiFi Adapters
I never considered using a usb wifi adapter, that seems like asking for trouble. Don't you guys use internal wireless adapters? PCIe?
Yeah I have definitely had trouble with everything USB on my computer. Makes me wonder, are there non-usb wireless keyboards? |

Re: Hardware Requirements for PT 12: WiFi Adapters
There are bluetooth keyboards. Some motherboards have bluetooth transceivers built-in, and some PCIe wifi cards have a bluetooth transceiver.

Re: Hardware Requirements for PT 12: WiFi Adapters
Please guys, don't let this thread die. I need to know which wifi adapter won't mess with my Pro Tools. I can't afford to go buying a dozen adapters until I find one that works.

Hey Chris. Not sure if it's any help, but how about a wired ethernet connection? Maybe that is the solution

Re: Hardware Requirements for PT 12: WiFi Adapters
There is only one hard connection for internet in my whole house, and it's not in a convenient place.
I've just read about how to turn a router into a wireless bridge. I will try that, if I can find an old router. I still would like to come to a neater solution though. |

Re: Hardware Requirements for PT 12: WiFi Adapters
I've done the cascaded router thing before. It turned out to be a PITA for me. Hopefully you're will go easier if you decide to. I would definitely try to go with a nailed IP address if you do that.
One thing I've also noticed with the usb ports, especially with a windows machine, is that it works better if you consistently use the same port for whatever you set up. It just seems to work better if you plug it back into the exact same USB port rather than moving to another. Let us know how it goes. |
