Default Expert opinions needed for compressor

My current setup is the Digi001. I also have a Focusrite ISA 110 and I will be buying a Apogee Rosetta for it very soon. What I'm looking for is one compressor to be used while tracking vocals. I generally try not to use any compression or EQ while going to disk, but I'm finding with vocals the levels are way to dynamic. I'd like something that colors the sound as little as possible and I'd like to keep it under $1000. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

First of all.... wrong forum. This should be in the 001 or the General forum.

Second... I love the LA-2A for vocals. Nice and smooth. There's something about optical compressors and vocals that just seems to go well together.

Good luck.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but the fact that it's a Digi001 shouldn't make a difference, right? All I'm asking about is a compressor to put between the ISA 110 and the Rosetta. It shouldn't matter what medium it's being recorded to. I figured with this being the TDM section, you guys would be more familiar with the ISA 110 and Rosetta and could recommend a good compressor to go with it. I thought there aren't too many guys using the Digi001 that also have the more expensive mic pres and A/D convertors. Sorry. This is usually the section of the DUC which I learn the most from reading.

Isn't the LA-2A quite a bit more than $1000? Are there any other worthwhile optical compressors for under a grand?

Thanks for your advice.

Hello,

You could check out the ART Pro CHannel. I think it's a damn good box for under a grand. If you replace the stock tubes with tele's, you'll see what I mean.

Good Luck.

Check out the Jomeek line - they're nice and not too expensive.

The guys are telling it straight. If you don't own a class bit of gear then, Dist ,1176 and LA2a and possibly in that order is a great choice.

If you don't have the money now ... then wait until you do. Don't be tempted to buy ordinary.

These are mono compressors and just perfect for track laying. A stereo comp is a different animal and often has a bigger price tag so don't let that cloud your buying. Cheap and cheerful in stereo is the RNC.

Distressor is the most versatile comp for a first buyer and second hand , if your lucky, is just perfect.
