Default Making 12.8.3 Work after linking license to 2018.1??

Hi there,

I am currently at the end of my tether with Pro Tools. I have a very decent PC and installed Pro Tools First only for it to crash, so I thought I would uninstall and commit to a subscription. I downloaded 2018.1 and it continually stops loading when I open a session ... pauses on the grey screen.

I have purged my Preferences, uninstalled, re-installed etc and I tried to install 12.8.3 as people seem to have more success with that.... however I am unable to launch it as it says I do not have a license to launch it.

The Application Manager only gives me the option to update to 2018.1 .... NOOO!

iLok says I have no licenses activated outside of Pro Tools First... and my monthly Sub..

How can I get 12.8.3 working?

Any Help is most appreciated as this is the worst product support I have ever experienced.... paying to get support??? What is that about???

Welcome to the community, and sorry that you are having so much trouble!

Pro Tools 12 needs the license to be on an iLok (the ability to authorize PT using iLok Cloud wasn't introduced until v2018.1).

Looks like you don't have an iLok, so best to install 2018.1 and start a support case through my.avid.com > Access the Support Center > Equipment > Create A Case

Can I buy a physical iLok device to run a earlier, more stable version of Pro Tools??

Thanks for the response.

Yes, you can buy an iLok (2nd or 3rd gen) and activate your license there to run 12.x.

Thanks for all the responses. Have ordered a physical iLok, let's hope getting the license on it will be easy when it arrives.

Cheers!

Uncle8ill what are your computer specs? That would be very helpful when community members are trying to help you.

UPDATE:

I bought a physical iLok 3rd Gen from Sonic8 (UK Distributor of iLok) have closed my Cloud session and transferred my license onto my physical iLok.

12.8.3 is installed and it all works like a dream!!

It is quick, loads seamlessly allows me to do everything I need with very little strain on my system... as I expected!

It seems like 2018.1 isn't for me, or my system and whilst I had to fork out best part of £50 for a physical iLok device as a work around I am pleased I am up and running.

Thanks for all the help on this.
