Default PT 7.4 - 20 millisecond problem?

OK.. this is a weird one..

I recently updated to 7.4, and last week the latest CS update.

Today i did a full day of drum tracking sessions. Playing with click and loops. EVERY take i'd feel like i was pretty in the groove, but when i would listen to the playback, PT was showing my drum tracks about 20ms ahead of the click. Now, at first i thought i was just having one of those days. But as it was happening consistently all day i started to get worried. (For the record, i'm a very experienced studio drummer, and while i do have a tendency to rush occasionally , this was a whole different thing.)

As an experiment, i patch in a digital metronome. I manually fired it off against the click, and after a few tries got it so that it was recording in perfect time with the click.)

How surprised was i to find that what i'd recorded, when played back was between 20-30 ms AHEAD of the click and PT grid!

I'm not sure what to think... all day i thought i was just playing badly, but this was unequivocal proof that PT was not playing back what i'd put in. Obviously the ramifications of this are pretty huge, so i'm just putting it out there to see if anyone has any thoughts or if they've experienced something similar?

(the click recording, and the sessions during the day were done at 128 buffer setting, with the lo latency monitor button on as well.)

I don't have any recollection of anything like this happening before, and i've been on LE since 2001 (v5 i think)

Any thoughts?

MC

Hi Michael,
I noticed this same problem with my MBOX 2 Pro & Protools 7.3 LE. I imported a drum track then layed down a bass track. The bass track was record a little before the drum track. No sure how many milliseconds but it was noticeable. Let me know if you find any answers. I finally nudged the track to put it in time.

I have been having this same issue with my PT LE 7.1 and MBOX 2 PRO.
I'm running on a Dell XPS720 with Windows XP.

I ran this by one of my audio engineering friends and he said it was something to do with Pro Tools making up for latency by nudging it before the click and there should be some setting to adjust the latency but I've yet to find it... It's really annoying having to nudge vocal tracks on the fly because of this

Same issue here. I posted a question about it almost a year ago, but never got a solution. At the time most responses to my post were suggesting user error. Glad to hear it is not just me.
