Default Mixing PT on a G4 laptop

I just want to do some mixing while I am on the road. What hardware do I need?

How many tracks from what source? MBox is great for portability but only can record 2 tracks at a time. The 002R is great but it would require a little more space and a power supply.

I have had a lot of luck (PT 5.2 on OS9) with a 600 Mhz iBook, the MBox and an iPod for hard drive. Nothing very complex but I didn't need any power supplies and the quality was great (total portability).

Mbox works nicely as a mobile hardware i/o.

You'll probably also need a good pair of headphones. I get good results with a pair of Beyer DT100s. I know these very well and the mixes i do on them transfer to playback on speakers suprisingly o.k. Mbox has pretty powerfull headphone amps and will drive my 8ohm DT100s to a seriously ( dangerously ) loud level if needed.

When you say your on the road, do you mean a bus?
If so, get a mouse as the vibrations make the track pad very fiddley.
Also get some of that rubber mesh from a camping shop and maybe some blu tack to stop things sliding about.

002 maybe your thing, but then you will rely more on the bus power. Telling a huge Texan driver that he crashed my sampler when he switched over from the generator to the land line did not illicit much sympathy !

I was hoping there was something smaller. I just want to play back...not record. This is just for rough mixing and editing. I am spending a ton of time on planes and waiting at airports. I want to go as light and small as possible!

Looks like Mbox is the only solution..yes? It's not like I have a choice here..right?
