Default Mixing on a laptop

I'm wondering what the best window configuration would be for mixing on a laptop (single monitor).
I'm planning on bringing a session home to work on and the last time I did it, I got terribly frustrated with windows overlapping one another (plugs are the worst because they stay on top).
Any advise?
Thanks,
~tim

Window Configurations. Read up on them, very powerful.

One of the most under utilized aspects of PT IMO.

With these, I feel NO NEED for dual monitors for example.

So whatever windows you find yourself going back to often, store as a Config for easy recall. I often end up with one called LV with all lead vocal plugs open and spread out across the screen. One called Stereo Buss processing, same way. Really makes life easier.

Hi Drew

Just wanna say a Big Thank you for your time and advice here as a Moderator, it really is much appreciated and really glad you are here

I wondered if you could let me know where the info on Window Configuration is located as I too think there has to be a better way to work when on the Retina MBP.

Best Regards
Chris

Window configurations are powerful but to recall them easily I would recommend to add a side numeric keypad. Thats the main problem of using a laptop in my opinion, the numeric keypad shortcuts.

Also to note that I have the LMP keypad and shortcut combinations between keypad and laptop keyboard do not work.

I do most of my mixing on a macbook retina display. Handles my session better than my old I7 4 cores Mac pro tower.

Try these shortcuts maybe as well:

CMD + = for toggling between edit and mix window
CMD + Option + W to close all floating windows (except AS unfortunately)

Hope this helps,
Timothy

Glad to help.

Window Menu/Configurations. This floating window is where you can see/create/edit your configs. Set everything the way you want it to be (edit window, plugin windows, transport, mem loc window, etc) then select New and name it. Repeat for each scenario you deem worthy.

Then you can close the Window Config floating window.

As you work, you can recall these configs similar to Memory Locations. With mem locs you press . (period) the number, then . (period) again.

For Window Configs, you press . the number then *

I will try to make a short movie/screen capture if I get time in the next week or two.
