Default Midi Channel Info

Hi there.

I can't seem to figure out how to tell what the original midi channel is after I import a midi file...

I import a midi file with multiple channels - but it always gets defined as channel 1-X in ascending order.

For example - I know that my third channel of the file should be sending on channel 7 (by checking on my trusty old Roland MC500) - yet I can't see this information anywhere on the screen or within any of the midi editors in PT 9.

I'm certain it's a simple oversight on my part.

Thanks for any assistance.

Sparky

You're not overlooking anything. Pro Tools does not translate General MIDI. If I need to know what's what in a GM file, I check it in Sekaiju first.

Since you're on Mac, what if you open it in Garageband? Can you discover the info there? If not, there are free and open source solutions that should work for you.

Thanks Top Jimmy - I thought I was losing my mind ....

I'll search for some free midi editors for the Mac.
