Default Old Fart Needs Help

Hi,
Many of my gigs are moving towards digital mixers, and from what I understand Pro Tools is pretty much the standard front end for these digital desks.

I would appreciate any advice on how I could learn Pro Tools specifically for live mixing. I"m am quite proficient in the analog domain, so I already know about mixing, FX, etc.

Besides going for training, (which is quite beyond my means at this point), what would be the best way to teach myself? I have downloaded the free Pro Tools First. What should I do next?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Nekko

PS - Here's a test for how old you are: Does anyone remember the Echoplex? (-;

One thing would be to research PT compatible interfaces that can accommodate the amount of I/O channels you will need for your live setting.

PT|First is good for familiarizing yourself with the general workflow of PT.
But the full version can accommodate more I/O demand with a compatible & reputable multi-in/out interface.

Hi, welcome to the community.

I have done lots of live gigs with PT and all I can say less plugins you need to use the better your live mix will sound

This is before googling:
I think I remember a Echoplex.
Wasn't that a spring reverb?
Or a cheap plate reverb box?

OK. Googling...

Well, far off.
Here, wikipedia:
Echoplex

PS: I remember my first mixer, late seventies, had a built-in spring reverb that had one option; more or less. A 8 or 12 channel thing we used for rehersals. Roland, I think?

The first PA I mixed on had 2 Tapco mixers with rotary pots (for faders), Voice of the Theater cabinets, Soundcraftsmen EQ and an Echoplex for delay!

I must be freakin ancient

We had an Echoplex, a Binson Echorec and a Fender spring in the rack on our control room wall. The Echoplex used a tape loop.

Oh gawd.., we had a (1972!) Yamaha PM200b mixer and matching powered speaker columns.

A WEM Copycat for my guitar rig. A room mate destroyed it flicking the 110/220v AC switch.

Next step up was a Dynacord Echocord MINI...

Yes I'm owld...
