Default MacBookPro Spring 2011

I know it is not officially supported computer for PT 11, but I don't see much difference between it and the ones that are officially supported...shall I see how this setup works or is this going to be a nightmare for us 2011 MBP's?

Unsupported just means it's not on Avid's test grid.

I'd bet you a million dollars it works.

Of course if you need support that could be an issue.

I will cross that bridge if I need to! If nothing else I may just have a really good second rig!

Hello,
I'm certain as well it will work, the internal architecture is extremely similar to later units.
As an engineer that's one of the things that frustrates me about Avid's support. "Not tested" is fine, but those of us who know these systems recognize that PT is not doing anything that "requires" a later system - any system with similar architecture and OS will work fine. Yet Avid will never help you if you have a "not tested" system even though it's nearly identical to a "tested" system and is capable of running far more intensive applications than PT.

I am sorry, this is not correct. I remember certain MacBook Pro models that did not work with a Magma expansion chassis. Older or newer models did but a certain model range did not. When it comes to Avid hardware, HD, HDX, HD Native, the model of a computer you use can be day and night.

The OP did not mention if he intends to use Avid hardware or use his MBP as is, hence I cannot give any detailed advice.

I am not saying that an "officially unsupported" computer may not work but its at your own risk and you shouldn't complain afterwards, this is my own humble opinion by the way.

I have an MBox Pro 3, and plan to use it as a solo writer/recordist just as I have been using PT10. I will never use more than 4 inputs at a time as I do all tracking with whichever instrument I plan to use (drums will be MIDI as needed, so no big mic sets!).

Hello Oliver,
No disrespect intended, but I used the term "architecture" specifically for those reasons.

Thanks Oliver! I love my current setup and have not had issues other than the occasional user error (of which 99% of all issues are IMHO!). I will wait until I need to upgrade to do so, except if I don't upgrade I will have 4k burning a whole in my pocket!
