Default 192k oddities

okay so I never work at 192k but did some experiments, and I have a few questions.

I have a system that is on 8.0.3cs1 and no matter what... in a blank 192k session there are 2 voices always allocated... on 8.0.1cs1 (different computer) 0 voices allocated with a blank session (expected) anyone else getting this?

Also at 192k... your session is limited to 3 hours? is there a reason for this?

Thanks!

Yes. 4GB is the maximum file-size in PT8.x (maximum size of BWAV)
If you want to stay backwards compatibe better stick with 2GB (1.5 hours)

That makes sense... but why limit the actual timeline? I can't spot a 1 frame pop at 1 hour and another at 5 hours...

Because PT works sample-accurately. So it can not address a sample that is further away than that given distance. The session start is address 0 at the same time so PT can not locate to an adddress that exceeds the last possible address that can be defined. This is dependant on the sample-rate. At 48k you can work till 11hours 20 minutes in PT 7.x. At 4 times the sample rate of course the timeline becomes 4 times shorter as well.

(Having said that, I have no idea why PT can´t do it while other DAW have 24hour timelines. Propbably due to the ancient code under the surface that is probably still from the times of PTIII)

ahhh... well that makes sense as well... thanks for the explanation Frank! (though I think that's a silly limitation that I'm sure they could find a way around...)

any ideas on my mysterious 2 voices in a blank session on 8.0.3cs1
